“We are deeply grateful for our partnership with Florida Community Loan Fund. Their unwavering commitment to affordable housing and their support in providing community-centered financing will make a lasting impact on the lives of countless families. This partnership will play a pivotal role in preserving families through safe, affordable homes and essential wraparound services. Together, we are not just providing housing – we’re creating a foundation for long-term stability and strengthening our community.” – Lisa Wanamaker, Executive Director

CityHouse was established in 2014 and is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness for single mothers in South Florida. CityHouse inspires hope and provides a pathway to a brighter future. The organization takes a proactive approach to homelessness, ensuring single mothers and their children stay together and have a safe place to call home. Lack of safe, affordable housing is an ongoing problem for single mothers – in Broward County, it is estimated that 61% of children in foster care could be discharged to a parent if they were properly housed.

CityHouse keeps families housed and unified by providing front-end services that enhance and strengthen the family unit through two distinct tracks: community care, and residential services. The community care program offers rent support, case management, financial literacy, access to emergency financial support, and other wraparound services. The residential program provides a temporary residence – usually between 1 and 3 years – that includes a safe, affordable apartment along with daily mentoring, mental health support, skills building, and other services. Residents pay a minimal amount of rent, usually between $225 and $350 monthly. Over their first ten years, CityHouse served 59 mothers and 81 children.

With financing from Florida Community Loan Fund, CityHouse is acquiring an apartment community in Fort Lauderdale that consists of 8 units of affordable housing, with a mix of 1- and 2-bedroom units. This acquisition, to be known as Peacock House, will offer single mothers and their children a chance to rebuild with dignity and step into a promising future. The acquisition of Peacock House will increase the number of homes owned by the organization from 20 to 28. CityHouse has a 5-year goal of having 60 residential units across Palm Beach and Broward Counties as transitional housing for area mothers and children in need as they follow their path to sustainable self-sufficiency.
