Private school serving 240 low-income students

In 2007, Ignite Your World started a local, private, community school in Fort Pierce, Florida, with 3 students. Today, the organization has 240 students across 2 schools, educating grades 1-12. The 2 schools – Golden Rule Academy for K-5, and St. Lucie Christian Academy for upper grades – specialize in small classes and individualized programs to match the student’s learning style. 90% of the families served by Ignite Your World live at or below poverty level; and 25% of the students are special needs. 97% of the students are on scholarships provided for low-income or disabled students. Many of the students have been in public schools, and transferred to an Ignite Your World school for its individualized learning styles.

Florida Community Loan Fund provided $800,000 in financing for acquisition and remodeling of the 2 school buildings. The FCLF loan will refinance an existing loan, which will lower the organization’s monthly costs and allow renovation that will include a new cafeteria and add 6 new classrooms. A 2nd loan provided funds for needed repairs after 2017's Hurricane Irma.

The acquisition and renovation will result in 13,000 sq ft over the 2 buildings, and is expected to increase enrollment to 400 students – a 67% increase – over the next 2 years. For families in Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, and other areas of St. Lucie County, Ignite Your World offers a significant benefit by meeting the need for alternative school options.
