FCLF Borrower Brevard Neighborhood Development Coalition (BNDC) has once again been noted for its improvements in the Greater Heights neighborhood of Melbourne.
BNDC and FCLF have partnered since 2007 to offer affordable housing in this once crime-ridden and drug-infested area, formerly known as "The Bottoms." BNDC also offers mentoring, tutoring, after-school and other services to children and adolescents through The DOCK, or Dorcas Outreach Center for Kids.
As previously noted on the FCLF website, since BNDC renovated the Greater Heights area a dramatic drop in crime has occurred. A new article in Florida Today discusses the overall improvements in the area, including those made by BNDC.
Lynn Brockwell-Carey, BNDC Executive Director, is quoted in this article as saying: “It’s as much a tribute to the people living there as it is the Brevard Neighborhood Development Coalition and Habitat for Humanity. We provided a nice place to live. In the end, it falls back on the quality of character.”
