Evara Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving Pinellas County, recently received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to confront the Black maternal health crisis and improve health outcomes for Black mothers and babies. U.S. Representative Kathy Castor was joined by leadership from Evara Health in June 2023 at a press conference announcing the grant. Evara Health is the only health center in Florida to receive funds to tackle the urgent issue of maternal mortality.
Evara Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a focus on underserved, low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals and families. Evara Health (formerly known as Community Health Centers of Pinellas) has for 40+ years provided strategically-targeted services to underserved, low-income, uninsured, and underinsured communities.
“It’s inconceivable that in this day and age, women continue to face significant risks during childbirth, particularly those from marginalized communities,” said Elodie Dorso, CEO, Evara Health. “The $2 million grant that we are so excited to have been awarded offers us a unique opportunity to create a lasting impact. With these funds, we can focus on implementing creative and innovative solutions that directly address the underlying causes of the disparities in our community.”
Florida Community Loan Fund has worked with Evara Health to provide financing and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation for 2 projects to bring additional services to Pinellas County residents through 4 locations. Learn more about FCLF and Evara Health on our website, fclf.org:
