Florida Community Loan Fund Receives CDFI Financial Assistance Award
The Florida Community Loan Fund (FCLF) has received a Financial Assistance Award of $1,347,000 from the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund of the U.S. Treasury Department. The grant allows FCLF's experienced team to contribute to the success of even more projects that benefit low-income persons and the communities in which they live throughout the State. The financial assistance award will help preserve affordable housing units statewide through the organization's Florida Preservation Fund (FPF) by offering flexible financing products that focus on outcomes and impacts, and by attracting capital from other private sources to promote affordable housing preservation.
"We take very seriously our commitment to help borrowers achieve success in their projects throughout Florida," said Ignacio Esteban, Executive Director of the Florida Community Loan Fund. "This new capital infusion under the 2013 CDFI Financial Assistance Awards reflects that commitment to continue to find new ways to help the communities we serve and to support the projects and organizations in these communities. The award will help us expand our successful affordable housing preservation program and will help the organizations we work with preserve the fragile affordable housing infrastructure in the state."
Since its first CDFI Fund award in 1998, FCLF has secured over $7.5 million through the program, and an additional $151 million in awards through the CDFI Fund's New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program.
The CDFI Fund issued its press release today announcing winners of the 2013 awards. 191 organizations received awards totaling over $172 million. These awards will enable Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) across the country to increase lending and investments in low-income and economically distressed communities.
