Ribbon Cutting at Carver Apartments and Shoppes

Mt. Zion Developments completes building renovation in Historic Overtown district of Miami

mtz-carver-ribboncutting-1-300x200Mt. Zion Developments celebrated the opening of the Carver Apartments and Shoppes in Miami on July 30 with a ribbon cutting. The building, built in 1926, is located in an area targeted for revitalization by the Overtown Community Redevelopment Agency. The recently completed renovation of this mixed-use building offers commercial retail space for community businesses on the ground floor, and 10 affordable rental apartments on 2 additional floors.

According to the Miami Herald, about 75 people attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, including representatives from the City of Miami. The $1.6 million project was made possible through a combination of public and private funds, including the City of Miami, the Southeast Overtown CRA, Florida Community Loan Fund, and Florida Community Bank.

In addition to providing affordable housing for low-income families and opportunities for jobs through the retail space, the building's new life is a source of pride for the community.
