Shimberg Center Provides Data to Help Housing Decisions

  • How many homeless people are in Florida?
  • How many households are cost burdened?
  • Where do these families live?
  • How do they find an affordable place to live?
  • How can we be sure housing is in the right places, to serve the people who need it?

A recently produced video explains how The Shimberg Center for Housing Studies helps answer these questions and more.

The Shimberg Center conducts research into housing policy and planning, with a special focus on housing affordability for Florida residents. The data and applied research is provided to state agencies, local planners, the housing industry, non-profits, and others involved in shaping housing policy in Florida. The Center also works closely with the University of Florida's College of Design, Construction and Planning.

Florida Community Loan Fund (FCLF) has worked closely with The Shimberg Center in collecting data to help drive our decisions as we provide much-needed financing for development in low-income communities throughout Florida. As an example, the Shimberg Center was helpful in defining the need for FCLF's Florida Preservation Fund.
