Victory Village Offers Rental Apartments for Low-Income Families
Living Independently after Homelessness
The Transition House, Inc. started in 1993 as a substance abuse treatment and transitional housing for men. In order to meet the needs of Central Florida, the organization has expanded its services from those early days, and today assists a growing number of veterans, providing housing and other services through the V.A., as well as offering education and job placement for former inmates. In 2013 The Transition House extended is reach once again to include services for children, adolescents and adults.
Now, with the opening of Victory Village apartments, The Transition House has opened the first permanent supportive housing program in Osceola County, in partnership with HUD, Florida Economic Opportunities and Osceola County Human Services. Victory Village is a 20-unit apartment complex providing permanent housing and services that will allow homeless families the ability to live independently and re-establish themselves into mainstream society.
Victory Village is unique because the location allows families to live on a major bus line for access to adequate transportation, and within walking distance to shopping and services. Rental units range from one to three bedrooms and Victory Village includes a playground, laundry and community center onsite. In addition to a safe and affordable apartment, the program offers qualified applicants education, employment assistance, job training, mental health and/or substance abuse treatment if needed, life skill training, and annual assessment of service needs.
Although the Florida Community Loan Fund is not a partner in Victory Village, FCLF has provided financing to The Transition House for many other projects in Central Florida. To read more, click here, or view our Flickr page on The Transition House.
