"FCLF was instrumental in making this important project a reality, bringing us one step closer towards fulfilling our vision of ending chronic homelessness in Miami-Dade County." – Dr. Paul A. Ahr, President & CEO, Camillus House

Camillus House has provided services to homeless and at-risk clients in Miami-Dade for 50 years through 12 locations. The organization relocated to the Norwegian Cruise Line Campus of Camillus House, which consists of 7 buildings (3 of which are funded through this NMTC project). This relocation allowed the organization to expand its existing programs which include temporary and transitional housing, job readiness, meals, and mental health services. Camillus House estimates they reach over 10,000 clients annually from the new campus.

The project is a key component of revitalization plans sponsored by local government and development groups, such as the Southeast Overtown Parkwest Community Redevelopment Agency, Miami-Dade County Trust 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, and the City of Miami Health District Plan. All buildings were built to green compliance and LEED Gold certification. Construction on the campus began in 2010.

camillus-aerial-300x200In addition to creating an estimated 52 permanent and 300 temporary jobs, this project was constructed on a site that has been empty for years; this is a vast improvement to the neighborhood. The temporary jobs were mainly in construction, and hiring priority was given to low-income residents in the vicinity. This project is financed through the NMTC Program, with FCLF providing $20 million in tax credit allocation.
