"Your generosity enables us to build energy efficient, sustainable and affordable housing." – Arden Shank, Executive Director, NHSSF
Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF) believes in empowering individuals, creating affordable housing opportunities, and revitalizing neighborhoods in South Florida. Hand in hand with providing housing comes the organization's commitment to high quality construction and rehabilitation, hurricane preparedness and energy efficiency. NHSSF has formed a joint venture with Adanac Development in order to provide affordable homes for Miami families in a subdivision known as DuPuis Pointe.
A loan from FCLF provided infrastructure construction for DuPuis Pointe, which is in the Gladeview area of Miami. The neighborhood includes 27 single family affordable homes, which will be able to withstand 150 mph winds and include impact windows so they will be hurricane ready. The new homes are built to certified Green standards, with Energy Star appliances, green light fixtures, low-flow toilets, showers and faucets, sealed cabinets, low VOC paint, and native landscaping. The Green features qualified this loan for lower interest rates with FCLF. Additional funding is provided through Miami-Dade's NSP-2 Program. and others.
DuPuis Pointe is located in one of Miami-Dade's most economically distressed neighborhoods, with a poverty rate of 46% and unemployment at twice the national average. These new homes are available for sale to low- and moderate-income households, which will reinvigorate the neighborhood and encourage additional economic development. The homes were completed in Summer 2013, and buyers have been approved for nearly all the homes.
