Macedonia Community Development Corporation of South Brevard (Macedonia CDC) has served Brevard County since 2006. Its mission is to provide affordable housing and core skills to very low-, low-, and moderate-income households and individuals. Through partnering with other area nonprofits, government agencies, individuals and corporations, Macedonia CDC has built or rehabilitated 15 homes, with another 22 vacant properties projected for rehabilitation. Macedonia CDC also offers STEM education mentoring, a college prep program, and a scholarship program for continuing education in the healthcare field.
Through their affordable housing programs, Macedonia CDC has served over 85 low-income family members in neighborhoods where revitalization is essential. This has created a sense of pride in the community and has influenced others to take pride and put forth extra efforts to maintain their homes.
With financing from Florida Community Loan Fund, Macedonia CDC will purchase 1 and renovate 2 homes for rent to low-income families. The rehabilitation will include top-to-bottom refurbishing, including roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, floors, windows, appliances, and general interior renovation. These homes are in an area that the City of Melbourne has targeted for enhancement under the City’s Community Revitalization Program.
The renovation of these properties into desirable and safe, affordable homes will have a positive impact on the area, by helping beautify the community, encouraging neighbors to enhance their homes, and inspiring other organizations and individuals to invest in the community.
A “Helping Hand” from FCLF to Macedonia CDC: It is a blessing to Macedonia Community Development Corporation of South Brevard (Macedonia CDC) to join in partnership with FCLF to obtain a $150,000 acquisition/renovation loan. Through this partnership Macedonia CDC is able to offer services to up to 16 additional low- and moderate-income household members. With the continuous demand for affordable housing in our community the partnership with FCLF helps us to carry on with serving those in need. We know that the desires and goals of FCLF are to help strengthen communities across Florida by supporting community development projects such as ours and we are looking forward to a lasting partnership with FCLF. – Jerry P. Phillips, President
