Jacksonville area facility built with NMTC financing expands the organization’s ability to fight hunger in Northeast Florida.
Feeding NE Florida celebrated the opening of its new facility with a ribbon cutting celebration on July 18. The new 120,000 square-foot facility allows the organization to expand its reach to 12 counties, serving 94,000 meals per day, from this facility and through its partner organizations. The new building also includes warehouse space, parking and loading docks for fleet vehicles, volunteer space, community meeting space, and the organization’s administrative offices.
Florida Community Loan Fund provided financing through its community development financing program, and allocation through its New Markets Tax Credit program. The NMTC Program was created by the U.S. Dept. of Treasury in 2000 to catalyze economic development in distressed census tracts nationwide.
The project “represents a significant step forward in our mission to fight hunger in Northeast Florida,” said Susan King, President and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida. “With one central location, we are moving food from where it exists to where it needs to go.”
